1923, Essen: Hugo Knümann founded a commercial agency for electrical products in Essen. Shortly afterwards, the young company called itself Phönix Elektrizitätsgesellschaft. Just five years later, in 1928, the company attracted a great deal of attention with the development of the first modular terminal block. After the Essen headquarters were destroyed in the Second World War, the company moved to Blomberg, where the headquarters of the now internationally expanded company are still located today.
