Mennekes - the company

In 1935, immediately after receiving his master craftsman's certificate, Aloys Mennekes founded the Mennekes electrical trade company. Together with two apprentices, the pioneer rented a store in Kirchhundem for this purpose, where various electrical items were sold.
After the end of the war, Mennekes increasingly took care of the repair of destroyed power lines and thus took the first steps towards becoming a manufacturer of electrical engineering. Mennekes also responded to the shortage of matches that prevailed in the post-war months by marketing the Glühauf - a patented electric fire starter.

In 1947-1948, Mennekes built its own factory building on a newly acquired site in Kirchhundem, where the company is still headquartered today. Here, the first connectors were made of aluminum, before the company switched to plastic from 1960. From 1966, the company then switched to the internationally valid CEE round plug devices.

Today, the company is active in more than 90 countries and employs nearly 1,200 people.
