What are universal wall plugs used for?
Universal wall plugs (also called all-purpose plugs or expansion plugs) are designed for solid substrates: concrete, solid brick, calcium silicate and hollow brick with a low void content. As the screw is driven in, the plug expands and creates a secure friction grip in the masonry. They cover the vast majority of standard fixing tasks in electrical installation, from cable trunking brackets to flush-mounted device boxes.
For hollow substrates such as plasterboard or drylining, cavity wall fixings are the right choice. For heavy loads in concrete, heavy-duty anchors or chemical fixings are available in the full wall plugs and anchors overview.
