  Installer's tip: Inductive sensors only detect metallic materials. For non-metallic objects such as plastic, glass or wood, optical or ultrasonic sensors are the right choice. When selecting an inductive sensor, note the reduced switching distance for non-ferrous metals such as aluminium or brass: depending on the sensor, this is 30 to 60 percent below the nominal switching distance for steel.
