DALI

DALI Definition

The abbreviation DALI stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface.

DALI is the definition for the standardized digital control gear interface. The manufacturer-independent DALI standard, fixed in the ballast standard IEC 60929, guarantees interchangeability and interoperability of control gear from different manufacturers. This new standard is not only a digital interface in addition to the previous analog 1-10V technology, but will successively replace it due to its advantages. The DALI working group has set itself the task of promoting the spread of this new technology and coordinating the various activities of the different manufacturers.

DALI functions

  • simple wiring of the control line - no grouping, no polarity
  • individual control of operating devices or group addressing
  • broadcast addressing (simultaneous control of all operating devices) always possible
  • possibility to query the operating devices: all - groups - individual
  • automatic search for operating devices automatic synchronous dimming of all operating devices when scenes are called up
  • logarithmic dimming characteristic - adapted to eye sensitivity
  • Intelligence: in the operating device are stored individual address, group membership, light scene values, fading times...
  • adjustable operating limits of the lamps for energy saving * adjustable dimming speed (fading)
  • identification of the device type
  • adjustable emergency power characteristics
  • no external mains voltage relay necessary for switching on and off
  • overall lower system price with more functions than 1-10V systems
  • integration via interface modules into the building management system
  • the complete light in a room can be controlled with only one "gateway node
  • with DALI, a wiring change, as required by the 1-10V interface technology, is not necessary
  • especially well suited for the control of colored light productions
  • complex programming, e.g. setting up constant light control loops
  • the DALI-AG supports the cooperation with superordinated BUS systems like EIB/KNX, LON or CABA
  • max. 64 individual devices = individual addresses
  • max. 16 groups = group addresses
  • max. 16 scenes = scene light values
  • easy system reconfiguration e.g. regrouping in an open-plan office or in case of a reconstruction
  • easy integration of new components
